SB1 and HB1 Move Forward. Here’s What Comes Next.

Yesterday, the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act (SB1) passed the Senate to the House and HB1 (“Youth CAMPER”) passed the House to the Senate. Once a single bill is approved by both the House and Senate, it is sent to Governor Abbott’s desk to be signed into law. The bills now cross chambers as a matter of procedure.

This means our work is NOT DONE. Please continue to call on your Texas State Representatives and Senators to pass SB1 and HB2, along with any other bills filed this special session that align with our four pillars: Prevention, Detection, Training and Response.

Where are we in the legislative process?

The Senate has approved “The Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act” (SB1) and the House has approved HB1 (“Youth CAMPER”). Next, the bills will swap chambers, with the Senate considering HB1 and the House considering SB1.

We’ve put together an overview of the legislative process for SB1 and HB1 so you can get a better understanding of how bills are passed, where we are in the process, and what’s next.
